Marlene R. Kirkeby, 79, of Brandon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls. She was surrounded by her loving children.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at Brandon Lutheran Church in Brandon. Burial will follow at Brandon Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, where the family will greet friends.
Marlene Rae Myrmoe was born on July 3, 1946, in Madison, S.D., to Marvin and Dorothy “Bernice” (Mellom) Myrmoe. She grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1964. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, History, and French from General Beadle State College (now Dakota State University) in Madison, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Following college, Marlene began her teaching career in Orange City, Iowa, before moving to Sioux Falls to teach at Hayward Elementary.
