Brandon, SD- Ihla Mae Ode, 85, of Brandon, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 after living a life guided by kindness, calm, perseverance and love of family. Her memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Brandon Lutheran Church. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.
Ihla Torkelson was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Andrew and Letha (McCullough) Torkelson. She grew up on their farm east of Brandon. Ihla graduated from Brandon High School.
Ihla worked as a secretary in Sioux Falls before she and Lee Ode were married on Nov. 21, 1951 at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. They first lived in Laguna Beach, Calif., where Lee was stationed with the U. S. Marines. After Lee was discharged, they returned to farm west of Brandon.

Beverly “Bev” Blue, 70, Sioux Falls, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2018 at the Sanford USD Medical Center after a brave fight with cancer.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at Heartland Funeral Home, with a sharing time at 7 p.m. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 7, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Sioux Falls.

Beverly “Bev” May Nytroe was born Aug. 8, 1948, in Sioux Falls to Kermit and Elaine (Peterson) Nytroe. She was raised in Crooks and Brandon, and graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1967. She then attended the National College of Business in Rapid City. Bev met Richard Blue III downtown on the loop in 1969. They were married on Nov. 12, 1971, and resided in Sioux Falls. Bev and Richard had two boys, Rick IV and Jeremy.
Memoial services for Brady Petterson, 19, of Viborg and formerly of Brandon, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at Faith United Lutheran Church, rural Volin.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Viborg Community Hall.
Brady died Sept. 1, 2018, after a tragic car accident.
He attended school in Brandon until his family moved to Viborg in 2012.

Daniel Coulter, 82, of Brandon, S.D., passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Daniel George Coulter was born July 26, 1936, in Brookings, S.D., to George and Elsie (Friedel) Coulter. He grew up and received his education in Brookings. Dan enlisted and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He and Barbara Steinhoff eloped on Jan. 10, 1959. Theirs was an enduring love story that continued for nearly 60 years. They were blessed with two daughters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They have resided in Brandon for the past 46 years.
