BVHA groundbreaking

The Brandon Valley Hockey Association invites the public to a ground-breaking ceremony for a new refrigerated outdoor ice rink at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at McHardy Park. The celebration runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and also includes inflatables, pizza, music, games and raffle prizes. 

 

Tree trimming to start

The city of Brandon will begin trimming trees in the street right-of-way starting Sept. 11. Trees will be trimmed on all streets west of Sioux Boulevard to a height of 10 feet over sidewalks and 12 feet over streets.

Swedona Covenant to celebrate 140th

Swedona Covenant Church, 25843 479th Ave., rural Brandon, will celebrate its 140th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 17. Rev. Mick Murphy will lead the morning worship at 10:30 and the anniversary service at 2 p.m. Rev. Donn Engebretson and Pastor Dennis Webber will be the guest speakers at the morning and afternoon services, respectively.

Military History 

programs resume

The Valley Springs American Legion Post 131 will begin its fourth season of Military History nights at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10.

A presentation will be given on the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House, Va. Discussion will follow the presentation, and refreshments will be served.

Military History events are free and open to the public.

 

Valley Springs Fire 

Department fundraiser

Enjoy a family fun event and help raise money for a good cause at the Valley Springs Fire Department’s annual supper and fundraiser. Set for Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the event includes pork loin sandwiches, hot dogs, sides and drinks, as well as a raffle, bake sale, silent auction, grab bags for kids and fire truck rides.
