City snow alert information

To keep informed on snow alerts in the city of Brandon, they are announced via a variety of avenues: City website, text message, KELO-TV, KSFY-TV, KDLT-TV, KTTW-TV, KELO-AM/FM, KXRB, KRRO, KTWB, KWSN, KXQL, Q957, KSOO. Once a snow alert is issued or 3 inches or more of snow has fallen, it is automatically considered a snow alert and it is illegal to park on the street until the street is plowed.

Warm clothing drive underway

Circuit Martial Arts & Fitness, Brandon, is collecting warm clothing now through Friday, Dec. 12. Donations of new or used clean coats, boots, gloves, hats, blankets, etc., may be dropped off at Circuit, 1124 E. Holly Blvd., Monday-Friday 3-6:30 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m.-noon. 

 

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are canned chicken, pizza sauce and crust, mustard and ketchup, pancake mix and syrup, cake/brownie mix, peanut butter, pudding snack packs, shampoo, body wash, bar soap and laundry detergent.

To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

Away in a Manger 

605 Roots, 26704 481st Ave., Sioux Falls, is staging a live nativity, Away in a Manger, from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12.

605 Roots invites the public to step into the story of Jesus’ birth to experience the wonder and peace of the stable where the King of Kings was born.

Along with the live nativity, there will be a station to write a letter to a loved one in Heaven, sing songs of the season, enjoy a cup of warm cider and more.

 

Breakfast at Bethany

The next Breakfast at Bethan, 3008 E. Aspen Blvd., Brandon, is 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12. A free will offering will be taken, and proceeds will go to the Bethany Foundation.

These breakfasts are served the second Friday of every month and are open to the public.

 

Brandon Farmers Market moves indoors

The Brandon Farmers Market sales has moved indoors to Faith United Church, 800 N. Splitrock Blvd., for the winter. The Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and is scheduled to be open Dec. 13 and 20 (holiday market plus Santa visit). 

New Year’s Eve party at Brandon Library

Can’t stay up late but still want to celebrate? Families are invited to a Glow Party at the library on Wednesday, Dec. 31 for glow-in-the-dark crafts, music and a countdown to the 12 p.m. (noon) balloon drop. The event is recommended for kids ages 2-10.

Families will enjoy exploring how art and popcorn glows in the blacklight room, and can light up the library with a free glow bracelet and glow-in-the-dark temporary tattoos. There is also an opportunity to create a firework ring and wand, and write your hopes for 2026, adding them to the library hope chain.

 

IceCats Arena calendar available online

Curious about what’s going on inside the IceCats Arena? Visit brandonvalleyhockey.com for the calendar of events, which includes practices for various levels of players, a women’s and men’s (A and B skaters, geriatric) leagues, games and tournaments.

 

Ed Polzine seeks donations of wild game, fish

The Ed Polzine Wild Game Feed Fund is accepting donations of wild game (deer, elk, pheasants, moose, etc.) and fish (preferably walleye) for the 40th annual Wild Game Feed on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.

Bingo Night at the VFW is Dec. 20

Brandon VFW Post 4726 is teaming up with Sioux Falls Canine Rescue to host Family Bingo Night from 7-9:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.  Cards are just 25 cents each.
