BV to host Metro Conference Cheer & Dance Championships
Brandon Valley will host the 2025 Metro Conference Cheer and Dance Championships beginning at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are canned chicken, pizza sauce and crust, mustard and ketchup, pancake mix and syrup, cake/brownie mix, peanut butter, pudding snack packs, shampoo, body wash, bar soap and laundry detergent.
For appointments, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The BFP’s annual dinner is being planned for Friday, Nov. 21. Watch the Journal for more information regarding entrée sponsorships and table purchases in the coming weeks.
Ed Polzine raffle drawing, pulled pork supper is Thursday
The Ed Polzine Wild Game Feed Fund will serve up a pulled pork supper from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Brandon VFW. A freewill offering will be taken.
At 7 p.m., drawing for the “30 Guns in 30 Minutes” raffle will begin. As of Tuesday, less than 10 tickets out of the 300 remain available for sale. Tickets are $100 each. For tickets, call the BV Journal at (605) 582-9999.
City to sell surplus property via online auction
The city of Brandon of “cleaning out the closets”, so to speak, and will be selling surplus property via an online auction service, Purple Wave Auction (purplewave.com) on Tuesday, Oct. 14. All equipment will be sold as is.

BVHA to celebrate indoor rink Oct. 16, 18
Brandon Valley Hockey Association will officially celebrate the opening of their new indoor rink (1500 Aspen Park Road) with a Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16. The grand opening of the IceCats Arena is from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The celebration will offer bounce houses, bean bag toss, face painting (1-2 p.m.), free open skate (1-2:30 p.m.), food trucks, Siouxland Library Bookmobile, meet and greet with Stomp, the Stampede mascot and Slapshot, the IceCats mascot, tours of the new facility, 50/50 raffle and a scrimmage at 3 p.m. featuring the IceCats JV/varsity against IceCats alumni.
