C.L.A.S.S. grant deadline is Aug. 15
Teachers from across the region will soon be preparing for the upcoming school year and to give them a head start for 2025-26, Sioux Valley Energy has brought back its C.L.A.S.S. Grant program.
Many teachers purchase classroom supplies on their own. To help, the Co-op will provide 10 area teachers with a $350 grant to purchase supplies for their classroom. Teachers can submit an online entry to Sioux Valley Energy at SVEClassGrants.com. All entries must be submitted by 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15. The grant recipients will be selected through a drawing which will be held at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 19 via Facebook. One teacher from each of the Cooperative’s 10 districts will be selected from the drawing.
Upcoming BV sports meetings
Pre-season sports meetings for Brandon Valley High School cross country and boys’ golf (both high and middle school), and football and volleyball (high school only) is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, also in the Activities Center.
The meeting for BV Middle School football and volleyball is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12. The location is to be determined.
REchurch backpack giveaway is Sunday
REchurch, a non-denominational congregation in Brandon, is organizing a backpack and school supply giveaway on Sunday, Aug. 3. The giveaway is from 1-4 p.m. at the church, 113 N. Splitrock Blvd. (next door to Lewis). The intent is to provide 150 kids in grades kindergarten through grade 4 with backpacks and supplies.
SVE Safety Day is Aug. 9
Sioux Valley Energy will host Safety Day from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 9 at their Brandon campus, 108 N. Heritage Road.
The family-friendly educational event, which includes a free pancake feed, will feature electric safety and interactive safety demonstrations, bike safety and helmet fitting, adult blood pressure checks, fire safety, ambulance tours, interactive ATV/UTC safety training, meet-and-greet Brandon Police Officers, experience virtual reality safety goggles and tour SVE’s recent expansion of its building.

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are pancake syrup, Manwich, pizza sauce, saltine and snack crackers, canned chicken, canned carrots, granola bars, cereal and shampoo.
