City and school board meetings resume in January

The Brandon City Council begins 2025 with their 4 p.m. briefing meeting on Thursday, Jan. 2, in preparation for their 6 p.m. regular city council meeting on Monday, Jan. 6. 

The Valley Springs City Commission meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Valley Springs Legion Hall.

The Brandon Valley Board of Education meets for the first time in 2025 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 in the BV High School Community Room.

As required, time for public comment is made available at each of these meetings.

 

Jan. 16 is soup supper at VS Legion

Valley Springs American Legion will host a soup supper beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. The menu will feature chili, bean and ham and white chicken chili soups. A free will offering will be accepted.

 

Military History Night

Military History Night programming by the Valley Springs American Legion returns Sunday, Jan. 19. Programs, which are free and open to the public, start at 6:30 p.m. The January program topic is yet to be announced.

 

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are boxed potatoes, Hamburger Helper, fruit snacks (small boxes), pizza sauce and crust, microwave popcorn, Kleenex, shampoo, toothpaste and bar soap.

To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may also be dropped off at the BAFP.

 

Clear snow from fire hydrants

The Brandon and Valley Springs volunteer fire departments remind residents to help clear snow from fire hydrants near their home. Remove any snow and ice within a three-foot perimeter of the hydrant and clear a path from the hydrant to the street.

 

Free kickboxing classes at Circuit Fitness

Circuit Fitness is offering free kickboxing classes from 8-8:45 a.m. on Saturdays during the school year.

Circuit also offers free senior try-it low impact classes. They are offered the first week of the month, Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m.-9:15 p.m.

The Brandon Post Office’s new phone number is (605) 349-4443.
