Where to hear snow alerts for Brandon

The city of Brandon uses several avenues to announce snow alerts. Residents can find this information on the city website (cityofbrandon.org), through city-issued text message system (sign-up at cityofbrandon.org/notifications), television stations (KELO, KSFY, KDLT, KTTW) and radio stations (KELO-AM, KXRB, KRRO, KTWB, KESN, KXQL, Q957, KSOO).

Once a snow alert is issued or receive 3 inches or more of snow, it is illegal to part on the street until it is plowed.

 

Lynx athletics in action during winter break

The Lady Lynx wrestling team will compete Monday, Dec. 30 at the Floyd Farrand Invitational hosted by Sioux Falls Lincoln. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.

The next day, the boys will compete at Floyd Farrand Invite, and wrestling begins at 9 a.m.

Brandon Valley’s varsity boys’ basketball team will face St. George’s Independent at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. The game tips off at noon at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

The Lady Lynx basketball team hosts Tea Area at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30.

 

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are boxed potatoes, Hamburger Helper, fruit snacks (small boxes), pizza sauce and crust, microwave popcorn, Kleenex, shampoo, toothpaste and bar soap.

To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may also be dropped off at the BAFP.

 

Early deadlines for BV Trader, BV Journal

There are early deadlines for the Dec. 31, 2024 Brandon Valley Trader and Jan. 1, 2025 Brandon Valley Journal.

Thursday, Dec. 26 is the deadline for the BV Trader and noon Friday, Dec. 27 is the deadline for the BV Journal.

Clear snow from fire hydrants

The Brandon and Valley Springs volunteer fire departments remind residents to help clear snow from fire hydrants near their home. Remove any snow and ice within a three-foot perimeter of the hydrant and clear a path from the hydrant to the street.
