Speedy Huron defeats BV boys

Staff report
When you play Huron, you need to bring your “A” game – and plenty of speed.

Unfortunately, Brandon Valley’s meeting with the Tigers lacked a little of both, as Huron planted a 4-2 loss behind their 27 shots, 12 of which were on goal. The Lynx boys peppered Huron’s goal with 17 tries, eight of which were on goal.

“Huron is always tough because they usually have a lot of quick, athletic players who are good on the ball,” BV boys’ soccer coach Chris Limmer said. “When we play teams like that, we can’t make so many defensive mistakes and still expect to have a good chance to win. We have to clean up some mistakes and be better, but the good news is that if we can do that, we should be able to put ourselves in a position to win any game.”

The host Tigers struck first, finding the back of the Lynx goal on a corner kick in the opening half.

BV, however, wouldn’t be left out of the scoring party.

With three minutes left to play in the half, the Lynx equalized. BV senior Lawson Lambertz played a through ball to fellow senior Carson Barton, who went one on one with the Huron goalkeeper and slotted a shot inside the near post to make it a 1-1 game.
Seven minutes into the second half Huron regained the lead when Eduardo Trujillo-Cordova planted the first goal of his hat trick when he slipped by his Lynx defender and hit a nicely placed shot inside the far post.

Trujillo-Cordova would prove to be too much for the Lynx defense to contend with, as he sliced through the back line and beat BV goalie Ayden Spicer with a well-aimed shot for his second goal of the night, which came at the halfway mark of the second half.

His final goal of the night was a gift from the Lynx when the ball was turned over cheaply in the back from an errant pass with four minutes to play. After Trujillo-Cordova received the ball, he saw that Spicer was off his line and coolly chipped it in from 30 yards out.

The Lynx would get a consolation goal late in the game when a Huron defender mis-cleared a ball that was played into the box and scored his own goal with two minutes to play.

Spicer registered eight saves in the loss to Huron’s seven. BV was charged with 13 fouls, one of which deemed a yellow card, and Huron had seven fouls and two yellow cards.

BV closes out their regular season schedule at 5 p.m. Thursday, when they host the Roosevelt Rough Riders at the BVHS Stadium. Playoffs, with pairings yet to be assigned, are slotted for Oct. 6 and 10.
