Day 7: 2025 South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament

Castlewood Ravens 10, Clark Traders 1 - The Castlewood Ravens homered twice in their 10-1 second round victory in the Class B tournament over the Clark Traders. 

The Ravens led 6-0 after two innings prior to the home runs making them seemingly anticlimactic. But Alex Gauer’s homer was an inside the park variety, which brought the decent sized crowd to their feet. That made it 7-0 and after back-to-back walks moments later, Aidan Stewart doubled for 2 RBI, and Castlewood was cruising.

Leading 9-1 in the seventh, Gus Steiger also homered for Castlewood and the Ravens held on from there.

Steiger and Aidan Stewart both had two hits to lead Castlewood at the plate.

Castlewood’s Kellan Benck pitched seven strong innings, striking out 10 and allowing five hits. He held Clark batters hitless through three innings before Brent Griffith singled to break things up.

Clark’s five hits were all singles, led by Jakob Steen’s 2-for-4 effort. Hudson Fuller picked up the loss for Clark on the mound. Fuller went 2.0 innings and gave up three earned runs as Castlewood built their big lead.

Next up for Castlewood is a quarterfinal matchup with the Platte Killer Tomatoes on Friday, Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m.    

Platte Killer Tomatoes 12, Four Corners 1 - Preston Nedved homered twice and the Platte Killer Tomatoes advanced to the Class B quarterfinal round in a 12-1 win over Four Corners. The game was shortened to seven innings because of the run rule.

Leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Platte extended its lead to 4-1 on a Grant Doom double. Two batters later, Nedved hit his first bomb, a three-run shot to make it 7-1 and the Killer Tomatoes were cruising.

Nedved hit another three-run homer in the sixth, scoring Michael Buitenbos and Hunter Hewitt who both walked earlier in the inning. The three-run shot increased the lead to 12-1 and the Platte was set.

Nedved finished 2-for-4 with a game-high 6 RBI. The Killer Tomatoes had nine hits total with Hayden Kuiper and Cole Knippling finishing with two each. 

While Nedved was launching the long ball, Platte pitcher Travis Gant was dealing on the mound, going the distance and striking out eight with five hits.

For Four Corners, five different batters registered a hit, led by Garrett Stout’s double in the third.
