Lorna will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Her ever-present smile, devotion to faith, kindness, service to and care for others will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Lorna was born near Hartford, S.D., in 1931 to Louis and Helen (Muchow) Jastram and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. On Sept. 25, 1949 Lorna married Richard Scott at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartford. They raised their six children on the family farm south of Valley Springs, S.D. Richard passed away in 1993 of brain cancer. In 1999 Lorna married Albert (Al) Small at Ben Clare United Methodist Church near Valley Springs, and later moved to Sioux Falls. She transitioned to Dow Rummel Assisted Living in 2019 and to the Memory Care in 2022. Al passed away in 2020.

Lorna was a member the Ben Clare UMC since 1949. She served as a Sunday school teacher and shared her love of music, singing many duets with Richard for church services, weddings, and funerals. Lorna and Richard hosted annual ice cream socials for the community on their farm for over 50 years. Lorna was also active with the United Methodist Women South Dakota Conference, serving in various officer positions, including President, from 1988-1991.

Lorna served other organizations including the Minnehaha County Extension Homemakers Council, Valley Springs Area Extension Club, Minnehaha County 4-H Foundation, Township Election Board for 61 years, the Sioux Empire Fair as Superintendent of the Foods Division, then helper, for 15 years. Lorna was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines choir, South Dakota Rural Youth, later named Young Men and Women (YMW), and in later years, YMW Alumni, for over 60 years. Lorna was a loving and caring woman, strong in her faith, fierce in her love of family, friendships, and compassion for those who touched her life. Those who loved her will remember her giving spirit, her sense of humor, and her ability to make delicious things in the kitchen. In addition, Lorna enjoyed refinishing family heirlooms, journaling daily life on the farm, caring for grandchildren, gardening, bowling (with the Garretson Palisade Ladies, Holy Rollers, Suburban Stars), traveling, dancing with Richard, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and was a competitive Scrabble player with her family and friends.
