Marvyl Eldal, 92

Marvyl Eldal, 92, passed away at her home in Brandon on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024 at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Marvyl Anderson Eldal was born in Badger, Iowa on May 4, 1931 to parents, Amos and Gurena (Warland) Anderson. She attended schools in the Vincent-Eagle Grove, Iowa area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. On Nov. 23, 1950 she was united in marriage to Jalmer Eldal. She attended Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash., and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn. While in their first parish of Revillo, S.D., Marvyl and Jalmer adopted Janice and Marcus. Marvyl was able to be a stay-at-home mother to her children before transitioning to a career of administrative work. In her early years she enjoyed sewing and quilting; in her later years she enjoyed her iPad and word games.  

She is survived by daughter, Janice, and her husband, Greg Rubin; grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Rubin and Katelyn (TJ) Cameron; great-grandchildren, Kiersten and Kiera Rubin, and Blake and Beckham Cameron; son, Marcus Eldal; and grandchildren, Sam Eldal and Aaron (Sarah) Eldal; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Hunter, Bentley and Noelle Eldal; daughter-in-law, Jane Eldal; brother, Eugene Anderson; sister-in-law, Donna Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Marvyl was preceded in death by her husband, Jalmer Eldal; parents, Amos and Gurena Anderson; sisters, Maxine (Gaylord) Michelson and Gertrude Anderson; brothers, Alvin (Gloria) Anderson, Jim Anderson, Mervin Anderson; sister-in-law, Doris Anderson; niece, Mary Quam; and great-grandson, Oakley Eldal.

Marvyl was a member of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. It gives us great peace to know that her life of steadfast faith has led her home to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.
