Terveer delivers 26 points in 69-61 loss

Carter Olthoff and Evan Talcott have been the scoring leaders for Brandon Valley in the team’s first three games this season. Thursday night, it was Cade Terveer’s turn.
The Lynx senior battled through a stingy Harrisburg defense and delivered 26 points, despite coming up short in the 69-61 ESD Conference loss.
“This was a fun game versus a very talented Harrisburg team,” head coach Brent Deckert said. “They are a high skill-level team and when you give those teams more opportunities it makes for a difficult game.”
Although the Lynx trailed Harrisburg for most of the game, they kept the visiting Tigers in check. Harrisburg held a slim three-point edge after the first and second quarters, 20-17 and 36-33. The Tigers widened the gap to 10 in the third (53-43), even stretching it to 16 points for a short stint before cutting the lead to four with 2:30 to play in the fourth.
“We started slow in the second half and came back but just couldn’t come up with the next loose ball,” Deckert said.
The Lynx gave up 13 offensive rebounds, allowing the Tigers to win that battle, 32-22. Ace Zorr had six rebounds for Harrisburg and Nick Hoyt had five. BV also gave up a dozen second-chance points.
In addition to Terveer’s 26 points and seven rebounds, fellow senior Max Wilde scored 15 points, while juniors Carter Olthoff and Evan Talcott each tossed in eight points.
For the Tigers, Brady VanHolland, who hit 4-of-8 from 3-point territory, produced 20 points and 12 rebounds. Two other Harrisburg players also finished in double digits. Chase Altenburg had 13 and Blair Slaughter scored 10.
BV charted 11 assists, three steals and 11 turnovers. Harrisburg had six assists, two steals and turned the ball over 13 times.
“Our (1-3) record doesn’t look good right now but we are becoming a good team,” Deckert said. “If we hang there, this team has plenty of punch to it. We play hard and we practice hard, and things will turn around.”
The Lynx hit the road for a pair of games against ESD Conference opponents, traveling to Mitchell on Jam. 2 and Brookings on Jan. 5. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
