Where racing meets recycling

Submitted photo

The Brandon Lions Club has scored another big win, and this time, it came courtesy of Huset’s Speeday. The local racetrack parking lot just off of Highway 11 (Splitrock Boulevard) is now home to the organization’s third aluminum can collection trailer. There are also collection sites in the Sunshine Foods parking lot and on the west side of the city in the Lynx Storage lot. The Lions Club is thankful for the opportunity, as the more cans they collect, the more the community service group can do. All funds raised from the sale of cans is directed to Lions Club projects, including assisting those, especially youth, that need but cannot afford eye exams and glasses. The Club also makes annual donations to the Brandon Area Food Pantry, Brandon Community Fund and Brandon Volunteer Fire Department. Lions Club members pictured are, from left: George Martin, Dennis Olson, Sherry Stroh, Daryl Schubert and Mark Meyer. Not pictured is Greg Holland, who took the picture.
