'Voice of the Lynx' to keep tabs on former BV student-athletes
Have you ever wondered after our Brandon Valley student-athletes finish their careers here and have moved on to the next level, where they are attending and how are they doing in the collegiate or professional sports world?
I hope my updates and stories on these student-athletes will help you follow them at the next level. Each year, only 1 percent of our graduating class moves on to the next level. In some cases, they are the star of their teams, others are contributing in different ways to their team’s success. I hope that by updating and writing interesting stories about our former Lynx athletes, will have you following them during their season or even go see them play the game they love.
As the public-address announcer for almost all sports at Brandon Valley, I have a special connection to our student athletes. I announce their sport throughout the season. I get to watch them play the game right and make us all proud on how they conduct themselves on and off the court. I am a big LYNX fan. The high school I attended is closed. Matter of fact, my college is closed. By the way, I had nothing to do with either closure! But the Lynx have been my team from the early days before my kids’ participation in sports, and long after they have graduated. Matter of fact, I show my Lynx spirt everyday as my Ram has “BV LYNX” personalized license plates.
I will warn you right up front. I grew up in Agar, S.D., a small town north of Pierre east of the Missouri River. At the time, I thought English, grammar and all the good stuff you learn in high school was not all that important. I thought subjects like calf-roping, trap-shooting, planting row crops and shop class was going to be more useful for me, so I assume that Matt Christensen’s English classes will have a heyday in “how not to write an article correctly.” Wanda, my wife, has agreed to do a quick proofread of each story to clean things up a bit.
Look for my roster and stories of former Lynx student-athletes that are playing each month in the Brandon Valley Journal. And if you have ideas for a story on one of our former athletes or an update, please email me at bob@georgeboom.com or call me at 582-7473.
Until next time, “Go BV Lynx!!”
