Two dozen to represent BVHS at All-State Chorus, Orchestra

Over 1,000 of South Dakota’s best high school vocal and instrumental musicians will gather in Rapid City for the 66th Annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27. The All-State activities will culminate with a grand concert at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center beginning at 7 p.m. (MT) Saturday. Concert tickets can be purchased at gotmine.com or at the box office. Doors open for the Concert at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The annual All-State Chorus and Orchestra, sponsored by South Dakota High School Activities Association, is the largest interscholastic high school music activity held in South Dakota. The 2018 All-State Chorus includes 928 singers representing 145 South Dakota high schools. The All-State Orchestra is comprised of 156 musicians from 22 schools.
Brandon Valley will be represented in the chorus by five quartets of singers: senior sopranos, Morrigan Crapser, Issy DeWitt Anna Nuss and Emili Widrig, and junior Abby Waldner (11), Emili Widrig; senior altos, Sierra Coyle and Emma Eichelberg, Courtney Moeller and Grace Wilford, both juniors, and sophomore Kenzie Polasky; tenors, Isaac Burchill, a senior, and juniors Zach Hentschel, Jimmy Hoffmann, Connor Klimek and Garrett Lien; and basses, Keaton Beyer and Kristopher Smith, both juniors, and seniors Aiden Carson, Ross Oren and Kody Postma (12).
This is the third year at All-State for DeWitt, Eichelberg, Burchill and Postma, and the second year for Nuss, Widrig, Coyle, Wilford, Hentschel, Hoffmann, and Smith. The 20 singers are members of the BVHS Concert Choir, directed by Terry Gullickson.
Four BVHS instrumentalists will be performing with the All-State Orchestra: Calista Kocmick, flute; Landon Smith, bassoon; Harry Heiberger, viola; and Henry Heiberger, string bass.
Guest conductors for the 2018 All-State Chorus and Orchestra Concert are Dr. Phillip Swan (chorus) from Wisconsin, and Dr. Anthony Elliott (orchestra) from Michigan.

During the All-State Grand Concert, the South Dakota Music Educators Association will recognize several high schools and individuals for their contributions to music in South Dakota. The SDHSAA will also recognize one of its 2018-19 Distinguished Service Award winners.
The Grand Finale concert will be broadcast live on SDPTV Saturday at 8 p.m. (CDT).
