Trick-or-Treat fun to be had at area events

Grab your plastic pumpkin pails to take in the spooky family fun at Halloween happenings in Brandon and Valley Springs – that is, if you dare.. 
 
Brandon Edge Community Halloween Party
Brandon Edge has plenty of seasonal fun in store at its Community Halloween Party from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the wood and tile gyms at Brandon Elementary. The free event offers games, activities, a haunted house and, of course, gobs of candy. Light concessions will be sold, with proceeds going to Brandon Valley kids heading to Washington, D.C. Costumes are encouraged. 
 
Trunk-or-Treat in Valley Springs
The Valley Springs Community Club’s Trunk-or-Treat will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Legion Community Park. Costumes are encouraged.
 
Trunk-or-Treat in Brandon
Brandon Valley Assembly of God is staging its 11th annual Trunk-or-Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, on the church grounds at 201 S. Sioux Blvd.
The event offers families a safe place to trick or treat, a variety of Halloween treats, games, popcorn, hot chocolate and more. Costumes are not necessary to attend, but parents are asked to accompany children at the event.
 
Operation Gratitude & Candy Buy-Back
Once trick-or-treaters have collected and sorted through their Halloween treats, Wehrkamp Dentistry in Brandon invites kids to cash in on the sweet treats.
The Brandon dental office is sponsoring its seventh annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back program in cooperation with Operation Gratitude.
Wehrkamp Dentistry, 117 E. Holly Blvd., will pay $1 per pound (up to 5 pounds) of unopened Halloween candy 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. Kids should be accompanied by an adult when trading candy in for cash at the dental office.
Kids are also encouraged to draw pictures and write letters to U.S. soldiers serving overseas. The candy, artwork and letters will be sent to troops serving overseas in cooperation with Operation Gratitude.

Howl-O-Ween Party
Halloween isn’t just for the youngsters – it’s for our four-legged family members, too! Horizon Pet Care in Brandon is hosting their 2017 Howl-O-Ween Party and pet costume contest now through Tuesday, Oct. 31. Prizes will be awarded.
For every pet that comes dressed in costume to Horizon Pet Care Oct. 23-31, the veterinary office will make a $5 donation to the Brandon Area Food Pantry.

Shindigs Haunted House
Shindigs, “where everything’s a party,” is ready to put a scare into kids of all ages! They have planned a kid-friendly trick-or-treat haunted house from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28. Entry fee is $4 per person or $1 off with a canned food donation to the Brandon Area Food Pantry. The haunted house for adults and more mature teen will be held from 8-11 p.m. on Oct. 27, 28 and Tuesday, Oct. 31. Entry fee is $5 per person or $1 off with a canned food donation to the Brandon Area Food Pantry.
 
Trick-or-Treat Trails
Witches, goblins, Ninja Turtles, and superheroes are invited to Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon Saturday, Oct. 28 for the annual Trick-or-Treat Trails. The spooktacular event starts at 5 p.m. and goes until 8 along a decorated path inside the Rec Area.
Visitors of all ages are encouraged to dress in their favorite costume and trick-or-treat along the park’s special trail. There will be businesses and organizations along the trail handing out treats. Be sure to bring a flashlight for a special challenge to find hidden reflective signs along the trail when the sun goes down. Also, be sure to wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather.
The walk is free to attend but a park entrance license is required to enter the park. Licenses are available at the park.
