Talk of the Town: Oct. 17

Author to visit Brandon Library

Award-winning South Dakota author David Beckett will detail his beginnings as an author and delve into the writing, locals and history of where his stories unfold during a Thursday, Oct. 18 program from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Brandon Community Library.

Beckett’s works have been called “adventurous, thrilling and meticulously accurate from a historical standpoint.” His new release is The Chords of Memory.

 

District 10 Candidate Forum is Oct. 23

Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and the Brandon Valley Journal will co-host a forum for state legislative candidates in District 10. The District 10 candidate forum begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 in the Brandon City Council Chambers.

District 10 senate candidates are Margaret Sutton (R-Sioux Falls) and Rachel Willson (D-Sioux Falls). Seeking one of the two District 10 House seats are incumbents Doug Barthel (R-Sioux Falls) and Steven Haugaard (R-Sioux Falls) and newcomers Barbara Saxton (D-Sioux Falls) and Dean Kurtz (D-Brandon).

As always, questions for the candidates will be accepted prior to the Oct. 23 forum. Written questions may be emailed to editor@bvjournal.info or kim@brandonvalleychamber.com or submitted on the night of the forum.

 

Brandon leaf drop-off day is Saturday

Thr City of Brandon will sponsor the first of three free leaf drop-off days from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Brandon residents may bring bags and cans of leaves to the Sunshine Foods parking lot, where Marv’s Sanitary will have Dumpsters and trucks on site. Only leaves and mulch will be accepted, no branches.

Leaf drop-off days are also planned for Saturday, Nov. 3 and 17.
