Risty to talk on Battle of Yorktown

Military History Night resumes a7 6”30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at the American Legion in Valley Springs. BVHS teacher Jeremy Risty will give a presentation on “The Battle of Yorktown, the final battle of the Revolutionary War.” Refreshments and a discussion will follow the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Brandon Historical Society book sale this Friday, Saturday

The Brandon Historical Society book sale will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19 at their storage facility on Cedar Street. Modern Woodmen of America will provide matching funds for all donations.

 

BVSD Early Childhood Screening is Sept. 24

Brandon Valley School District will conduct its annual Early Childhood Developmental Screening from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Burkman Valley Elementary School.

Screenings are free for all children from birth to age 5 who live in the BVSD. South Dakota screenings will involve all areas of development, including adaptive, personal-social, communication, motor and cognition.

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are microwave popcorn, taco seasoning, bottles of juice, Rice-a-Roni, jelly/jam, BBQ sauce, canned carrots, vegetable and vegetable beef soups, deodorant, shampoo (only) and laundry detergent (56 ounces).

To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may be dropped off at the BAFP, at Jones Family Eye Care and Lewis in Brandon.

 

Brandon Realtor, NW Tire team up in Lead Learn Drive event

Brandon Valley teen drivers (ages 14-18) are invited to take part in Lead Learn Drive, a car maintenance and training event from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at Northwest Tire, 1321 E. Redwood Blvd., in Brandon. 

The free workshop will enlighten teen drivers on how to change a tire, pre-drive inspections and car maintenance basics. Participants should bring their own vehicle to participate in the hands-on training activities. Parents are also welcome to attend with their teenager.
