ReChurch collecting school supplies

ReChurch in Brandon has begun collecting donations of school supplies that will be given away to Brandon Valley students later this summer.

The goal is to give away 150 backpacks, filled with supplies, to local children.

Supplies needed include pencil boxes, markers, whiteboard eraser, erasers, Kleenex, bottles of glue colored pencils, wide-ruled notebooks, pens (red, back, blue), hand sanitizer, headphones, folders, watercolor paints, rulers, Clorox wipes.

 

Cars and Coffee set for July 11, 25

Brandon Cars and Coffee at Annie’s Coffee and Roastery, 721 N. Splitrock Blvd., Brandon, are planned from 8-10 a.m. Saturdays July 11 and 25. Owners of classic, street rod, rat rod, hot rod or favorite cool ride are invited to mingle with neighbors while enjoying a favorite Saturday morning wake-up beverage. Participants are also reminded that  parking lot burnouts are prohibited.

 

Early deadline for July 7, 8 publications

The Brandon Valley Journal office will be closed Friday, July 3. Please submit news items and advertising by Thursday, July 2 for publication in the July 7 Brandon Valley Trader and July 8 BV Journal.

 

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are pickles, jams/jellies, flour, sugar, powdered sugar, brown sugar, seasonings and spices.

To make appointments, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Used eye glasses and hearing aids for the Brandon Lions Club may be dropped off at the BAFP.

 

Second round of Hometown Heroes Banner orders underway

Three Rivers VFW Post 4726, the Auxiliary and the Ed Polzine Fund are offering a second round of the Hometown Heroes Banner program that will honor veterans with Brandon ties. Eligible veterans need to have lived in Brandon, be associated with the Brandon community or a past/present member of the VFW. 

If you are a veteran or would like to honor a veteran, applications (with payment) must be submitted by Aug. 1. Cost is $150 per banner. Good, quality photos are required. Photos, with the form may be emailed to vfw4726commander@gmail.com or editor@bvjournal.info. Checks should be made payable to the Ed Polzine Fund. Application forms are available at both the VFW, 321 S. Main or the Brandon Valley Journal, 1404 E. Cedar St. during weekday business hours.

The banners will be displayed through Veteran’s Day in November.
