Pie & Ice Cream Social with the Historical Society Thursday
The Brandon Historical Society, in conjunction with the Minnehaha County Historical Society), will host a Pie and Ice Cream Social at the picnic shelter at Pioneer Park in Brandon at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18. There will be a short presentation on the history of Brandon. The event is free and open to the public, with the BVHS Community Room as the alternate site in case of inclement weather.
Pool Teen Night on tap for Friday night
The first Pool Teen Night (ages 13-19) of the summer at the Brandon Community Pool is planned from 9-11 p.m. Friday, June 19. Normal daily fees or memberships will apply.

Brandon, Valley Springs city offices closed for Juneteenth
City offices in both Brandon and Valley Springs will be closed Friday, June 19 for Juneteenth National Independence Day, which is a federal holiday. First recognized in 2021, Juneteenth is celebrated annually to commemorate the end of slavery in the Unived States.
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry
Current needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are pickles, jams/jellies, flour, sugar, powdered sugar, brown sugar, seasonings and spices.
To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
June 25 ribbon cutting set for Edward Jones’s new office
A Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting is planned for 12 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at Edward Jones, 519 N. Splitrock Blvd. The Edward Jones office of Anthony Siemonsma and Alex Renner has relocated from Splitrock Square to this new location.
Aug. 1 is deadline to order Hometown Hero banners
Aug. 1 is the second deadline to place orders for Hometown Hero banners to be displayed in Brandon.
Thirty-four banners were ordered in the first round, and will be going up on light poles along Holly Boulevard soon.
The cost is $150 per banner. Good, quality photos are required. Photos, with the form may be emailed to vfw4726commander@gmail.com or editor@bvjournal.info. Application forms are available at the VFW, 321 S. Main or the Brandon Valley Journal, 1404 E. Cedar St. during weekday business hours.
