Iwo Jima is topic of April 19 Military History Night
A Military History program is taking place at the Valley Springs American Legion on Sunday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.
Local resident, Mr. Mark Rollinger, will be giving a presentation on “Stories and Artifacts from Iwo Jima.” Iwo Jima was the site of a major battle between U.S. Marines and Japanese Imperial Forces in WWII.
Refreshments and a time for Q&A will follow the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.
Brandon Quilt Guild invites new members
The Brandon Quilt Guild, which meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Spirit of Truth Lutheran Church, 112 E Annabelle, is open to new members. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 21.
Brandon Earth Day Big Sioux River Clean-up is April 25
Friends of the Big Sioux River in partnership with the city of Brandon has set the annual Earth Day River Clean-up event from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 25. Participants should meet at McHardy Park.

Citywide spring rummage sale registration now open
The 2026 Brandon Citywide Spring Rummage Sales are set for Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9. Registration is open now at brandonrummages.com. Friday, May 1 is the deadline to register.
The complete list of sale addresses, items and individual sale times will be available online on Monday, May 4.
BVHS spring musical tickets on sale
Tickets for Brandon Valley High’s spring play, “The SpongeBob Musical” are now available for purchase online through BOUND at brandonvalleyk12.sd.us (click on the BVHS link). The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 23-25 and at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 25. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. No passes will be accepted.
Bethany’s annual Chili & Soup Cookoff is Saturday
Bethany’s annual Chili & Soup Cookoff is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The cost is $8 for adults or free will donation; kids under age 12 are free. All proceeds will benefit the Brandon, Valley Springs, Split Rock and Garretson volunteer fire departments.
Entries are sought from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
