Supe's On: Student safety is everyone's responsibility

By:
Dr. Jarod Larson, BVSD superintendent
Working to ensure student safety is everyone’s responsibility. One component of The Lynx Way is “We Are Safe.” Whether the conversation surrounds distracted driving, pedestrian or bike safety, appropriate bus behavior, school zone laws, or stranger danger – it is critical that we engage our students in these discussions at school and at home. Engaging our children in the conversation about commuting to and from school safely is an essential step in the promotion of student safety. Together, we can promote student safety.
I want to extend a special thank you the Brandon Police Department for their excellent patrol and coverage of our school zones. Their presence and effort is greatly appreciated and impactful.
Effective communications with the parent(s) and guardian(s) of the Brandon Valley School District requires that we maintain accurate and up-to-date household contact information. We are asking all to complete the Skyward Family Access Update prior to Friday, Sept. 8. We greatly appreciate your timely cooperation and completion of the Skyward Family Access Update.
As we continually look to the future and plan, our district will be engaging in a strategic planning process throughout the 2017-18 school year. Last spring, we sought patron feedback through surveys to help guide our strategic planning process. Student achievement data, academic research, and best practices in education will be critical aspects of our strategic plan as well as the data we received from patron surveys. Focus groups, as well as public meetings, will be components of the strategic planning process. Ultimately, district goals will be established and an action plan to meet those goals will be developed. Improving student outcomes and providing excellence in education is the foundation on which we will build our strategic plan.
Go Lynx!
