Robert 'Bob' Questad, 77
Robert “Bob” Questad, “Bobby Q,” “End of bar Bobby”, 77, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023 while at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Interment will be at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery 1t 1300 hours (1 p.m.) Monday, Aug. 21, followed by a celebration of life at the Brandon VFW Three Rivers Post.
Robert “Bob” was born April 7, 1946 in Sioux Falls to Herman and Jeanette (Gieken) Questad. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964, training as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief, serving in Vietnam and subsequently the Marine Corps Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1969 as a Sergeant. Bob was proud to be a Marine and remained “in contact” with many other military veterans as a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4726 Three Rivers in Brandon.
Bob then became a United States Postal carrier working his way to Postmaster, serving most recently in Humboldt and Garretson before retiring after 35 years in 2001. Bob received numerous awards and other accolades regarding an outstanding career at USPS.
Bob was also a member of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department, certified as a Reserve Deputy. He again received a commendation for his dedication for “outstanding police work” in 1977. Bob often spoke fondly of his time behind the badge.
Bob enjoyed coaching SD Junior Football for 10 years until 1988, having received several “Coach of the Year” awards. Despite being a Dallas Cowboys fan, we thank Bob for his dedication to the players and love of the sport.
Bob was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and NASCAR racing. He tried to be a golfer.
Among the many grateful for having shared his life are Barry (USAF) and Kathy Williams, Ron (US Army) and Gail Harris, Luke (USMC) and Crystal Reimers, special friends Sarah and Jake Flemmer and Cousin Floyd Geiken; along with an extended VFW family, group of friends and fellow veterans too numerous to list.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Herman, and mother, Jeanette; and brother, Jerald Questad.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon VFW Post 4726 Veteran’s Relief Fund in a continuing effort to support our local veterans.
