Rob Auseth, 77

Robert J. Auseth, 77, of Brandon, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, under the care of Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, surrounded by his family. Memorial services are planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, also in Sioux Falls.

Rob was born Nov. 4, 1947, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to John and Francis (Swanson) Auseth. He graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1966. Following high school, Rob enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star Medal along with several other military decorations.

After being honorably discharged from his service commitment, Rob married Illynne Lerdal with whom he had two children, Travis and Kelli. Rob later married Cheryl Hageman with whom he spent the next 32 years. From this marriage, Rob gained three stepchildren, Jodi, Jason and Justin. Rob and Cheryl lived in several different homes in both Brandon, S.D. and the Phoenix, Ariz., area. After retirement and until Rob’s health declined, Rob and Cheryl wintered in Mesa, Ariz. There they met many in the Good Life Park that became like family to them.

Throughout their marriage, Rob and Cheryl enjoyed spending time at Nascar and sprint car races. Rob worked at Huset’s Speedway and other local dirt tracks in addition to officiating with the NHRA for over 30 years and made numerous life-long friends in the racing community. Many mid-August nights were spent making memories with family and friends in Knoxville, Iowa. Other summer memories that Rob cherished were the weeks spent in Northern Minnesota at Boot Lake.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Cheryl; son, Travis Auseth, Gulf Shores, Ala.; daughter, Kelli Berke (Jerry), Sioux Falls; step-daughter, Jodi Woessner (Paul), Sioux Falls; step-sons, Jason Hageman, Omaha, Neb., Justin Hageman (Heidi), Valley Springs; four grandchildren, Cody Woessner (Connor), Cole Woessner, Kennedi Woessner, and Lily Smith; sister, Barb Schriever, Sioux Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Bob Schriever.
