Facebook has had its issues in recent years, but there’s little argument about the power the social media platform has at bringing people together.

A perfect example, and an incredibly random one at that, is the connection between Scott Bullis and Seattle Koepp.

Bullis is a 1987 Brandon Valley graduate living in Colorado Springs. He’s a car enthusiast and restored a Hudson Hornet, which is painted similar to the one in the movie, Cars. He’s shown the car at various shows throughout Colorado and also competes with it in various endurance rallies. He raced the car last summer in a competition that raced across the country called The Great Race.

Koepp is a budding indie pop singer living in Denver. She recently posted on Facebook that she was looking for anyone in the area with an antique car that she could feature in an upcoming music video.

Bullis’ wife, Cindy, was scanning Facebook recently and saw Koepp’s request. She responded and told Koepp that her husband had such a car that might work perfectly for the music video.

Through correspondence on Facebook, the irony came crashing through the computer screen.

Koepp is a 2017 Brandon Valley graduate. Exactly 30 years apart, the two Lynx grads who’d never met were now collaborating on a music video.

“There was no connection at all,” Bullis said. “It was incredibly random.”

Koepp is known professionally as Seattle Kay. While at Brandon Valley, she performed in choir and was in most theatrical plays. She was also in Oral Interpretation.

But things have certainly taken off for her since her time in Brandon. Her song, MindGames, was released on July 23. The music video featuring Bullis’ car dropped on July 29. Her first album dropped on Aug. 6.

Koepp and Bullis connected on July 16 for the video, a quick turnaround for its release a month later. The video was shot all around the Denver suburbs, including shots outside the Coors Brewing Company plant in Golden.

“It was nuts when I met him,” Koepp said of her first encounter with Bullis. “I was like, ‘No way. You went to the same school?’ I never meet anyone from Brandon out here. It’s crazy, it’s really cool.”

Although things are fast-tracking for Koepp in the music industry, she said it’s been the plan since she was a child. She said her grandfather sang to her when she was a baby and that ever since she could talk, she was talking about doing music.

“I have drawings from kindergarten of tour buses,” she said. “I’ve been posting videos online since I was in Middle School.”

She and a newly hired manager are also planning a tour later this year, and that includes a stop in Sioux Falls. A date venue has not been announced.

Perhaps the music video will continue to build her career. The fact that it was aided by a fellow Brandon Valley grad 30 years her senior brings it full circle.

“I’ve had experience posting on Facebook groups. I found my drummer and my bass guitarist there,” she said. “It’s a really cool way to bring people together.”

MindGames can be viewed on YouTube and is available to download on all social media platforms.
