From the Pulpit: God is always close, powerful, committed

Have you ever felt pulled in different directions? If you’re like most people, you can easily answer yes to that question. We live in a world filled with uncertainty and competing voices. Let me remind you – there’s hope! The apostle Paul prays for the church in a city named Ephesus. In Ephesians 1:15–21, Paul offers steady and deeply personal encouragement for believers. Rather than focusing on outward success, he directs attention to something far greater: A Spirit-given understanding of God Himself. He prays that believers would receive “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,” not merely for knowledge, but for relationship – that the Church would truly know God. This reminds us that faith is not sustained by information alone, but by an ongoing encounter with the living God, who opens our eyes to see what is already ours in Christ.

At the heart of Paul’s message is a call to live with spiritual clarity. Paul prays that “the eyes of your heart [may be] enlightened,” pointing to a deep and authentic awareness of three anchors: the hope of God’s calling, the richness of His inheritance in His people, and the immeasurable greatness of His power toward those who believe. For Christians walking through daily pressures, this truth reframes reality. Our hope is not fragile or temporary – God has an eternal purpose for your life. Our identity is not defined by circumstance, but by the value God places on His people. Paul was reminding and encouraging the church with this unshakable truth – it is the very power that raised Christ from the dead that lives in each one of us.

This passage ultimately lifts our perspective from the immediate to the eternal. The same power that resurrected Jesus and gave Him authority over everything is actively at work in your life. That means no situation is beyond God’s reach, and no struggle is outside His authority. Paul’s prayer becomes an invitation: to move beyond surface-level faith and step into a confident, informed trust in God’s character and capability. You may feel tired, defeated, or uncertain, but God has given His church hope, purpose, and power. When life feels heavy or unclear, those truths can ground us. Our hope isn’t wishful thinking – it’s secure. Our worth isn’t up for debate – it’s settled in how God sees us. And we’re not trying to live this life on our own strength – the same power that raised Jesus is at work in us.

It’s easy to get stuck focusing on what’s right in front of us – our struggles, our fears, our limitations. But the truth and power of Scripture gently lift our eyes higher. Jesus is not distant or powerless; He is risen, reigning, and actively involved in our lives. That means whatever we’re facing isn’t bigger than Him. And maybe today, the encouragement is simple but needed: God is closer than you think, more powerful than you feel, and more committed to your life than you realize.
