Merlin Dean Statema, 75, of Hull, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 27 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley, Iowa. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, Iowa. 

Merlin is survived by his wife, Gayle; daughters, Dawn Statema, Maurice, Iowa, and Gerralynne Statema. Sioux Falls; son, Kevin Statema, Maurice; sisters, Joanne (Gerald) Franken. Sioux Center, Iowa, Glenda (Gailyn) Hagena. Lennox, and Bonnie (Art) Boone. Sheldon, Iowa; brothers, Donald (Helen) Statema and Peter Statema, both of Orange City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Damon) Hopson of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michelle (Billy) Jansma of Ellsworth, Minn.; brothers-in-law, Walter Van Den Oever of Brandon, , Bryan Van Den Oever of Washington, D.C., Ryan Van Den Oever of Wenatchee, Wash., and Frederick Van Den Oever of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
