Ben Schultz hired as head boys’ basketball coach at SF Roosevelt
A chance to return home convinced Ben Schultz to step down after four seasons as the Spearfish varsity boys’ basketball coach.
Last week, he accepted the coaching position for the varsity boys’ basketball team at Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
“That’s where I’m from,” said Schultz, who is a Brandon native. “That’s where my friends are, where a lot of my family is.”
The Spartans forged a 46-39 record during Schultz’s tenure. They made three trips to the Class AA SoDak 16 and qualified for the 2025 state tournament, where they finished seventh.
Schultz, who is a 2026 indiuctee into Brandon Valley’s Athletic Hall of Fame, will teach high school physical education at Roosevelt.
Splitrock Ladies Bowling League results
Results from the final week of the Splitrock Ladies Bowling League on Tuesday, April 14 are as follows: High Team Game & Series, JSA Engineers/Land Surveyors, 889 & 2,499; High Individual Game & Series, Jan Fonder, 181 & 513.
Ann Behrend picked up the 4-5 split; Jan Fonder picked up the 5-7 split; and Shiloh Oorlog picked up the 2-7 split.
Issy Larson and Jan Fonder each had a turkey.
There will be a roll-off this week between JSA, the first-half winners, and Alliance Communications, winners of the second half.
The league’s bowling banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28.
Meile is 2026 NIAAA State Award of Merit recipient
Casey Meile, CAA, coordinator of Athletics for the Sioux Falls School District, is a 2026 NIAAA State Award of Merit recipient. The award was presented March 31 at the South Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association state conference.
Meile started his current role in 2018.
