It was a middle of the pack finish for the Lynx boys on back-to-back days last week, as Brandon Valley battled for both the ESD and Metro conference crowns.
In the nine-team ESD, the Lynx collectively carded a 325 to place fifth, and the next day posted a 326 to finish fourth in the five-team, heavily-competitive Metro Conference Championship.
“As we headed into the (ESD) conference tourney we had really high expectations to finish in the top three, and after seeing the scores, we definitely had the opportunity to do so,” BV head coach Scott Carroll said. “The kids were disappointed as a team and wanted to place higher.”
BV junior Jackson Faber earned All-Conference ESD status behind his 79 score, placing him in a tie for ninth.
“Jackson has had a great year for the Lynx. He has been very consistent, but he knows that he can shoot lower and I am hoping for a great state tournament,” Carroll said.
Seniors Lucas Schobert and Mitch Gusso continued to play consistent finishing one shot and two shots, respectively, out of the conference awards.
“This team has potential to have four scores in the 70’s. We will see how the state tournament goes but if they play the golf they are capable to play all 18 holes, we can hopefully knock on the door to top six, which is where we have been all year,” Carroll said.
Pierre’s Austin Hoss was the medalist, shooting a 66.

Metro Conference
The Lynx nipped Sioux Falls Lincoln by three strokes to nab fourth in Tuesday’s Metro Conference meet.
Schobert’s 80 led the way for the Lynx.
“Lucas played really well and had a tough break on the last hole or would have even scored better. He has been playing well and I hope he continues into his final state tournament,” Carroll said.
Faber and Mitch Gusso, who the coach said, “are just a couple shots away from each playing really well in this tournament,” aided with an 82 and 81, respectively.
Austin Swenson’s 83 rounded out the team tally score.
Washington’s Will Grevlos was the medalist, carding a 69.
The Lynx competed for the Class AA state title Monday at Tuesday at Pierre’s Hillsview Gold Course. See next week’s BV Journal for results.
