Chandra Larson of Brandon walks the ‘Opera Recycles’ runway at New York’s Couture Fashion Week. Submitted photo

Chandra Larson, Brandon, walked the runway during New York’s Couture Fashion Week as a model for the Opera Carolina’s “Opera Recycles” fashion show. The runway show was held Sept. 9, in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan in New York City.
The show came to fruition after three years of creating couture fashion involving recyclable materials from the opera that are made into gowns. The recycling initiative puts outdated and extraneous printed marketing collateral to a creative and beautiful use. Since the initiative launched in 2015, more than 10,500 items of marketing material have been converted into eco-friendly fashion pieces.
Opera Carolina is based in Charlotte, N.C.
Larson is the daughter of KayLynn Burnham of Highmore and James Burnham of Rapid City and a 2006 graduate of Highmore High School. She is a partner at ChiroSport serving the Brandon, Sioux Falls, Dell Rapids and surrounding area, practicing chiropractic and acupuncture. She is married to Bryant Larson and they have a daughter, Ember.
The show was created and produced by Larson’s long-time friend, Megan Miller, who asked her to be a part of her big moment. The two met during Larson’s reign as Miss SD USA and have remained close friends ever since.
