Letters to the editor: Merkouris: Thank you, for a great newspaper

To Jill, her staff, and all contributors

to our local newspaper,

I didn’t think the day would ever come when I’d read a whole newspaper again and even shed a tear while doing it. Hats off to Jill, her staff and the contributing writers for a great weekly newspaper. It was so exciting to read all the positives.

We can definitely be proud of our school for offering a new construction trades class and also bringing in people from the outside to share their occupations with the students. To hear what Ryan Hofer had to say about his experience at the school was so uplifting. And to read about some of the sports that are outside the norm, like powerlifting and bowling along with a cute picture of a young hockey player with his idol from 12th grade. Yea, Eric Roberts. And don’t miss the “Good news abounds...” article on our school board meeting. I was on a school board years ago and seldom was there much good news. And hats off for trying to bring a newspaper back to the high school. Someday, one of you may be bringing us a great newspaper like Jill does today.

The “Viewpoints” page was my favorite. Tom Savage brought a tear to my eye with his attempt to describe what it was like to watch our Special Olympians play a brief game during half-time. Wow!! Way to go kids, parents and fans for making these 10 minutes so special. I loved Jill’s article as a fellow Vikings fan and Pastor Dan Deardorff’s “Give God the Glory” was exceptional. Read it to learn something about Johann Bach that I never knew and give God the glory. I could relate to the article from the “Absent Uncle” about finding a retirement home and happy they did.

I know that all of this could not happen or come together without Jill Meier, our great editor. One more thing, I read the whole article about crime being down in the Brandon area. Thank you, Jamie Steffel, and your 16 officers, for positive patrolling and teaching us all how to be better citizens. God bless you all!

 Great work, Brandon Valley Journal.
