Letters to the Editor - Albertson: ‘Life’s too short to waste it on sitting in traffic’
I firmly believe that Aspen Park needs at least one more entrance. It’s not only annoying but it’s not safe. I, too, have been trapped there with tornado sirens going off. Unfortunately, I don’t live in the city limits to vote or have direct input but I have been to the park hundreds of times in 30 years with my kids and grandkids. Baseball and softball have staggered start times which helps but flag football games start and finish all at the same time, so guess what, traffic jam every time. With the new hockey arena opening and a growing town, it will get worse yet. here has to be a solution that doesn’t involve adding more lanes by the little kids’ fields that still dumps out in a residential area. A business would never agree to have such poor traffic patterns.
Ask people visiting from out of town and they will shake their heads that there’s only one driveway that goes past the little kids’ fields. Using rough math, I have been stuck at Aspen Park in my idling truck for at least 70-plus hours over the years.
I couldn’t care less that the parking lot is gravel. Most fields around the country have gravel and grass parking the way it should be. Gravel is cheaper to install and maintain over time. A second entrance can be gravel as well. Right now, we cut cross country though the weeds with a side by side just to not be stuck in traffic over and over. Many grandparents don’t stay for the end of the games just to beat the rush. Life’s too short to waste it on sitting in traffic. I recommend three entrances and gravel.
