Larry Wirebaugh, 78, of Aberdeen, died Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 Saturday, May 23, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Attendees are asked to observe social distancing as requested by the church. Live stream video available on the Coester Funeral Home Facebook page.
In addition, there will be a memorial visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Private inurnment will be held May 29 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Mitchell.
Larry was born June 30, 1941 in Mitchell to Willie and Irene (Bailey) Wirebaugh. He attended Notre Dame High School and graduated from Mitchell High School. Larry worked for Mitchell Printing Company until he took a position with 3M in Mitchell. While working at 3M, he continued his education and went on to earn his Engineering degree. During his 31-year career, his positions took his family from Mitchell to New Ulm, Minn., and eventually to Aberdeen, where he retired in 2004.
Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moccasin Creek Country Club, Aberdeen Gun Club, Lions, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge. He was a member of the NSU Wolves Club and proud supporter of Northern State University, and he served many years on the Board of Trustees at Presentation College. Larry volunteered, whether asked or not, at countless events, activities, projects and community events.
Larry cherished his grandkids and traveled to as many of their activities as possible. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, trap shooting, reading (especially history), gardening, puzzles and camping. Larry and Sharon attended every high school or college sporting event they could and along with NSU, Aberdeen Central, Presentation College and Roncalli, he was a true Notre Dame, Twins, Vikings and NASCAR fan. Outside of sports, he enjoyed his time as a personal chauffeur and volunteer customer relations agent at Ken’s Alignment and Brick’s TV & Appliance.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife of 58 years, Sharon; three children, Julie (David) Allen of Mitchell, Lynn (Rodney) Paul of Brandon, and Kent (Darcy) Wirebaugh of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Nicholas (Tara) Allen, Kimberly (Lane) Brenden, Tyson Allen; Chantel, Janae and Mallory Paul; Sydney, Hayley and Kyley Wirebaugh; great-grandchildren, Jayda and Brynlee Allen; Tessa Allen and Quinn, Ace, Nola and Caz Brenden; two brothers, Steve (Cathy) and Bryan (Robin) Wirebaugh; in-laws, Judy Wirebaugh, Karon (Nic) Segers, Donnie (Barb) Young, Donna Gohn, DeAnn Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, James Wirebaugh, Janice Wirebaugh and Jeanine Moody, and granddaughter, Gabrielle Paul.
