The Lady Lynx soccer team put up a good fight in their Aug. 15 battle against the visiting O’Gorman Lady Knights, but came up short in the 2-0 outcome.
“We outshot them significantly and had many great opportunities. We just once again couldn’t put it in the back of the net,” said head coach Jacob Shoup. “They were able to score twice on seven shots. The field was very wet from the rain, so both goals kind of squeezed in on unfortunate circumstances.”
Brandon Valley took 25 shots on goal; O’Gorman blasted seven.
Abby Bastian registered five saves for the Lynx, while the Knights’ goal keeper had 25.
“This was another hard-fought game for us against a good team,” Shoup said. “We had another great game from our back line and our goalie, Abby Bastian. Offensively, we did a much better job creating chances and building our attack, we just couldn’t finish the deal.”
The Lady Lynx also came up short against Pierre , 1-0, on Aug. 11.
“Overall, I’m very pleased with our effort in both games to start the season. But effort won’t always win games. I think eventually we will get where we want to be and I’m confident in the group that we have that we will continue to get better as the season goes on,” Shoup said.
For O’Gorman, Elisabeth Pujado scored in the fourth minute; then, Abigale Muller scored in the 59th minute.

We started a little sluggish but gained some momentum and energy from an early goal from Chloe Askdal assisted by Katie Beiningen. The Lynx put a second goal in right before half from a long shot outside the box by defender Morgan Thompson.
The goals continued to pour in in the seconf half, with a third goal off of a corner kick.
Mya Chan got her body on it early while Cali Kocmick was able to finish it while it was bouncing around in the box. Bre Langenhorst scored the fourth goal off of a great turnaround shot at the top of the 18. Lastly, senior Kaitlynn Bannwarth scored her first goal of the year to finish off the game by getting her body on it in the six-yard box.
“Our defense once again was airtight while only allowing two shots on senior goalie Kianna Thelen’s first game back from injury,” Shoup said.
“We look ahead to a tough week against one of the powerhouse programs in A soccer, West Central, and our rival Washington. We will get a good picture of who we are as a team through this week,” he said.
The Lady Lynx take the field next against Washington at 6:45 p.m. at Yankton Trail Park on Aug. 25. They return to their home field on Sept. 5 when they host Roosevelt at 7 p.m.
