Judith Rae Spoo, following a brief hospitalization and return home, passed away at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 14, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 11 months, and 1 day. A memorial service celebrating her life was held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon.  George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon assisted with arrangements.
Judith (Judy) Rae Spoo was born on Oct. 13, 1950 in Estherville, Iowa, to Edith Mae (nee Yaple) and Henry Earl Spoo. Judy was the youngest of three children in her family, which included her brother, Gerald, and sister, Linda. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville on Nov. 12, 1950. She was confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Upsala, Minn., on June 14, 1964.
Judy attended elementary and high school at Upsala. She graduated from Upsala High School in 1968. Following her graduation, she was a self-described “pizza pusher” at a five and dime store in Minneapolis. She worked on an assembly line making eyeglass lenses at St. Stephen, Minn. Judy was also a nurse’s aide in Melrose, Minn., and Atwater, Calif. She worked at HEI in Sauk Centre, Minn., from 1969-1994. She worked at Hutchinson Technology Industry in Hutchinson, Minn., from 1995-1999, transferring to their Sioux Falls location from 1999 to 2009. Judy was employed at Walmart East in Sioux Falls from 2009 until her retirement in 2015.
In 1975, Judy survived an accident involving a car striking her parents’ home while she and her parents were present. Following the accident, Judy stayed home and cared for her parents.
Her hobbies included needle work, reading, painting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and collecting cat figurines. She also enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States with her sister, Linda. Judy was a member of Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Gerald (Jerry), and his wife, Sharon (Sherry) Spoo.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Linda Spoo of Brandon; her aunt, Louise Spoo of Bangor, Wis.; niece, Tammy Spoo of St. Francis, Minn.; nephew, Shawn Spoo of Milaca, Minn.; and niece Heather Spoo of Casa Grande, Ariz.; as well as many friends and relatives.
