Joseph Francis Zimprich was born on Aug. 22, 1932 to Joe and Alice (Ostrander) Zimprich on the family farm near Grover, S.D. He graduated from Thomas High School and moved to Sioux Falls to begin working while taking correspondence classes. He completed his Associates Degree in accounting.
Joe met the love of his life, Carol DeToy, on the dance floor at the Arkota Ballroom. The couple was married on April 15, 1961 at St. Lambert’s Catholic Church and to this union three children were born. He began working in the automobile business in downtown Sioux Falls with Ray Quinn. Eventually, he joined the Ben Hur Ford family, where he stayed for over 44 years. While Joe had left the family farm near Grover years before, he and Carol started their own small family farm on an acreage near Brandon. They raised their three children here, while instilling in each of them a strong work ethic and numerous important life lessons. Whether he was hunting, fishing, or driving his John Deere, he thoroughly loved the outdoors. Joe and Carol enjoyed spending time with close friends. That time included travel, playing cards, having dinner at the Elk’s Club, and seeing Lawrence Welk at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. He and Carol continued “their dance” until she passed in 1998.
Joe was instrumental in starting the Risen Savior Catholic Parish in Brandon. He served in many capacities for Risen Savior, including many terms on the finance committee. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, reaching the Fourth Degree level.
Joe enjoyed learning as much as he could about his Zimprich genealogy. He loved spending time with all of his family. He was especially proud of his eight grandchildren. In the recent years, he took great joy in visits from them and his 10 great grandchildren.
After Carol’s passing, he married Betty Pease. During the last several years, Joe struggled with memory and many health issues. He battled all of this with grace and dignity and was so appreciative of ALL the special people that loved and cared for him. Every moment you spent holding his hand or rubbing his head meant so very much to not only him, but to each of us.
Grateful for having shared his life are is children, Jeff (Kim) Zimprich, Jill (the late Kelly) Loudenslager, and Jodi (Chris) Myers all of Brandon; grandchildren, Zach (Erica) Zimprich, Alex (Garrett) Harker, Andi (Matt) Yeggy, Eliz, abeth (Tom) Bianchin, Maggie (Connor Howell) Loudenslager, Isabelle (Brandon) Joffer, Abby (Andrew) Bardales, and Avery Myers; great grandchildren, Paisley, Gracyn, Rhett Joseph, Lane, Ember, Lennon, Reece, Jack, Amelia, and Adeline; sisters in law, Sally Zimprich and Marie Martinson; and many dear relatives and friends.
