Joelle Scroggs was born May 4, 1935 in Beresford, S.D., to Ray and Kathryn (Chadwick) Scroggs. She grew up in Beresford and graduated from Beresford High School in 1953. While in high school she proudly reigned as Homecoming Queen and was blessed to meet her high school sweetheart and future husband, Donald Stuessi. Don and Joelle were married Jan. 30, 1954. Their marriage was a 64-year partnership. They happily raised their four children together and worked their farm together.

Joelle enjoyed bowling, golfing and cheering on her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. She was a many year member of Eastern Star and was a faithful member of Beresford Zion United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees. She volunteered her time in various community activities and projects over the years. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, reading and playing bridge with all her friends. She was a great hugger and was a teacher of unconditional love. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the center of her world.
