Jill's Journal: The ‘West’ was wild for BV Lynx
If you haven’t heard, the Brandon Valley Lynx had a quite a weekend on the westside of the state.
For starters, the Brandon Valley Dance Team racked up their fourth straight Class AA state title.
Four titles. All in a row. Whew ... I’m nearly exhausted thinking about all of the ‘blood, sweat and tears’ that goes into winning not only a state title – but four. I can’t imagine any of the teams knocking on the door are excited to compete against the Lynx.
I’m proud of you, Coaches Hoffman and Trujillo. Year after year, you’re the guiding forces that truly make it happen. You’ve found a way to get these athletes to “buy in” on whatever routine these girls are challenged with every year.
Every fall, Coach Hoffman doesn’t give me all the details of the dances. But, she does pique my interest with various hints she supplies me with. Remember last year’s kelly green costumes? It’s a color no other team would have expected on the backs of our BV Lynx.
Congratulations to all who have a big – or small role in BVDT’s repeated success. I’m already excited about what they’ll bring to the floor next season.
Speaking of floor, the Lynx cheer team bumped up their state finish by one place, going from 10th to ninth. While it may not be as big of a jump as cheer team coaches Bailey Durfee and Sydney Hayes had envisioned for this team, their progress is heading in the right direction.
Brandon Valley’s cross country teams also had their own battles to conquer on West River soil. The Lincoln Patriot boys and the Harrisburg girls proved they have all the right pieces in place.
But don’t ever count out your BV Lynx. Two of our runners were overcome by the unexpected late-fall warm temperatures, but I’m happy to report that Lynx frontrunners Sarah VanDeBerg and Mikah Peters both picked themselves up, brushed themselves off and ran across their respective finish lines.
Congratulations to the Lady Lynx and their second-place team finish, and to the BV boys, who rose to fifth place in a highly-competitive class of runners.
BV’s volleyball team also upped their season win record by five. Kudos to the team for peaking at the right time of the season.
With the football and volleyball seasons remaining, buckle up, I think we’ll be celebrating in November, too.
