Jill's Journal: A ‘Browns’ team that knows how to win
If you ain’t picking, then you ain’t playing, and you’re surely not winning.
That’s essentially how one Brandon couple has been cashing in on our weekly “Pick the Pigskin” competition.
If you haven’t been paying attention, here’s what has the dandruff up on those who are turning in their weekly football picks: The Browns, more specifically, Howard and Nancy Brown, combined have several wins under their belts.
Through the first four weeks of our 11-week Pick the Pigskin contest, this Brandon husband and wife combo have been cashing in. Technically, Nancy has won either first or second in three out of four weeks, and Howard has a couple of wins under his belt, including his impressive week where he picked all 15 games correctly.
Last week, I asked them what their secret was. Howard’s response: “Eenie, meenie, miney, moe …”
I reckon there’s a bit more to their picking process, but then again, some people simply have good luck. I’m typically not one of them. As I told someone last week, if there’s 10 people in the room and nine door prizes, I’m probably the one going home empty-handed.
That statement has long held true until Saturday evening, when my ticket was one of 30 winning “30 Guns in 30 Minutes” raffle tickets that was plucked out of the bucket.
If you haven’t checked out to see who won this week’s Pick the Pigskin, I can tell you that the Browns were “overthrown” by Dillon Dickey and Tommy Carroll, both coming out with a 13-2 record. Dillon edged Tommy on the tie-breaker.
My words of advice to you: Don’t stop playing. And if you’re not playing, we’ve still go weeks to go. Check out the playing board in the Brandon Valley Trader.
As for the Browns, when it comes to picking the right teams, I can confidently say that this is one “Browns” team that knows how to win.
Sorry, Cleveland.

Speaking of winning, if you weren’t at Howard Wood Field on Friday where the Lynx dominated the Patriots, you missed out on one really fun game!
We’re not done yet. With Mitchell, Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Jefferson yet to play, these next three weeks are sure to be something to cheer about! In Supt. Larson’s words, “Go Lynx!”
