Gerald “Jerry” Bosch, son of Gerrit and Jennie (TenHaken) Bosch was born Nov. 28, 1924 in Rock County, Minn. On May 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Vivian Eernisse at her parents’ home in Valley Springs. To this union four children were born: Marilyn, Gary, Loren, and Brad. Jerry worked at Olson Lumber for 28 years and then at Robinson Lumber for another 17 years before his retirement in 1991. He was a longtime member of the Retail Lumbermen’s Association and was recognized for over 45 years as a member. He was never one to be idle, and even in retirement he could be found helping Gary on the farm, or assisting the other children on home improvement projects. Most mornings he could be found with the coffee crew at the elevator in Valley Springs.
Gerald was very involved in the community and his church. Gerald and Vivian have been longtime members of the Valley Springs Reformed Church. Gerald served in many capacities including: serving as a Deacon and Elder, church secretary, and Sunday school secretary. He was on the Valley Springs School Board at the time of the merger with Brandon. He volunteered at the Banquet in Sioux Falls, with Habit for Humanity, and went with Vivian on many mission trips. He served on the Pleasant View Cemetery Board for many years. Gerald and Vivian loved playing Pinochle and enjoyed playing with friends for many years. Family was the most important thing in his life and he loved being a grandpa. There was rarely a ball game or activity that he missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vivian of Valley Springs; children, Marilyn Bosch of Sioux Falls, Loren (Tracy) Bosch of Burke, S.D., and Brad (Tammy) Bosch of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law, Cherlyn Bosch of Brandon; five grandchildren, Tammy Lynn Bosch, Mike Bosch, Katie Bosch, Ryan Bosch, and Trent (Sharey) Bosch; and great-grandchildren, Elliana and Kolten; sister, Grace Wassenaar of Hills, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Mona Rozeboom of Minnesota and Joyce (Craig) White of Missouri; brothers-in-law, Jim Harsma of Sioux Falls and Lester (Mae) Eernisse of California; and numerous relatives and friends.
