With the ability to overcome obstacles – namely dancers missing from the floor due to close contact quarantines – the Lady Lynx once again rose to the top of Saturday’s Harrisburg Invitational.
This time, they did it behind their 369-tally, which elevated Brandon Valley to the top of the 11-team competition.
“They did really well,” is how BV coach Ashley Hoffman summed up the team’s fifth straight grand champion title.
With continual changes to BV’s roster, Hoffman said nearly all of her student-athletes returned to practice last Thursday.
“It was definitely a week of reworking and a quick turnaround time to get routines back to getting as many on the floor as possible,” she said.
Hoffman continues to talk with her team about the adversity they have faced in the 2020 season.
“We had practice before we left that morning, and I told the girls that I feel a lot of people don’t see the hardships we have seen this year. We have literally put out a new routine every competition,” she said. “I reminded my girls on Saturday that the public doesn’t see all their hard work going in, but we know and feel it. It’s definitely been an uphill battle this season, and I am so proud of them.”
The Lady Lynx out-performed runner-up Sioux Falls Washington in the jazz division. BV sparked the judges for a 372.5 score, while the Warriors were awarded 346 points for their jazz routine.
BV’s pom routine also out-performed second-place Dakota Valley by 23 points. The judges awarded the Lynx dancers a 365.5 to DV’s 342.5.
Washington won the hip hop division, which BV does not compete in.
BVDT takes a week off from competing as they prepare to host the BV Invite scheduled for a 5 p.m. start on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
