Staff report

Last week, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office conducted liquor compliance checks of area businesses that have alcohol sales licenses. These checks included businesses with either liquor or malt beverage licenses. These checks are done periodically throughout the county in an effort to reduce the incidents of underage purchase of alcoholic beverages.

There were 63 businesses checked, of which 55 businesses passed the compliance check.

The following Brandon businesses passed: Holiday Pantry, Coffee Cup, Splitrock C Store, Sunshine Foods, The Expressway, Jokerz Casino, Dakota Star Casino, Brandon Spirits, Brandon VFW, Double D and Casey’s General Store.

Both the Valley Corner Bar and On The Rocks in Valley Springs were found in compliance.

The Red Rock Bar in Rowena and Bottom’s Up in Corson, along with four Garretson businesses – Sports Cabin, Garretson Food Center, The Combine and Jesse James Mini Mart – all passed the compliance check. In Renner, both the American Legion and Renner Corner followed liquor sales protocols.

Eight businesses failed the compliance check. Those businesses are El Mexcal in Dell Rapids; Palisade Oil, The Gulch and The Dollar General, all in Garretson; The Monarch Lounge and The Safari Bar and Grill, both in Renner, and The Dug Out and Sunshine Foods, both in Hartford.
