Etoyle Aljets, 96, of Valley Springs, S.D., passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at Palisade Healthcare Center in Garretson. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. Visitation starts at 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral chapel in Brandon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Valley Springs or the American Legion Auxiliary in Valley Springs.
Etoyle was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Rushmore, Minn., to Harold and Pauline (Lindemann) Hollister. She grew up and received her education in Rushmore before she moved to Luverne, Minn., where she worked as a waitress. She met the love of her life, Henry “Hank” Aljets and they were united in marriage on Dec. 5, 1944. Shortly after Hank’s discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Sioux Falls and she worked at Manchester Biscuit Co and later Lewis Drug. The family moved to Valley Springs in 1959 where she tended bar there for several years. In retirement, the couple enjoyed spending summers at their cabin at Spitzer Lake in northern Minnesota. Etoyle was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Valley Springs, the Valley Springs American Legion Auxiliary, and the Brandon VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, entertaining friends and family in her home. Above all she cherished spending time with her family and welcoming all to her warm and inviting home.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dianne (Bill) Mathers of Lake Madison, S.D., Ginger (Jim) Breen of Sioux Falls, Cindy Bakker of Valley Springs, Jo (Dennis) Roozenboom of Valley Springs, Shellee (Brad Colombe) Aljets of Trent, S.D., and Brett (Merrily) Aljets of Sioux Falls; son-in-law, Kenny Bodewitz of Valley Springs; sisters, Kay Johnson and Linda McEldowney of Rochester, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Pauline; husband, Henry “Hank” Aljets; daughter, Gwynn Bodewitz; grandchildren, Angee Rozeboom, Terry Hiney, and Billy Mathers; step father, Lewis “Mac” McEldowney; son-in-law, Larry Bakker; and brother, Burdette “Sonny” Hollister.
