Doris Mangold Polzine, 89

Doris Mangold Polzine, 89, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, in Flandreau, S.D.
Doris Ann Mangold was born at home in rural Worthington, Minn., on Dec. 30, 1935, to Clifford and Lorraine (Moriarty) Mangold. She went to country school and then to school in Brewster, Minn. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1953, then went to Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She married Edward Polzine on Jan. 22, 1956, in Brewster, Minn. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, S.D., until 1964, then moved to Brandon, S.D. Doris worked as a teacher’s aide for the Brandon Valley School District, then worked in the bookstore at Augustana College in Sioux Falls for 10 years. In 1975, the couple bought a Dairy Queen in Brandon, which they later named Brandin’ Iron Café.
Ed died Aug. 12, 1999, of cancer. Doris sold the cafe shortly after and retired. She cared for her mother and volunteered at the Salvation Army in Sioux Falls. She developed dementia and moved to Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, S.D., in December 2017.
Survivors include three children: Alica P. Thiele and her husband, Glenn, of Brandon; Mike Polzine and his wife, Kathy Carr, of Brandon; and Deanna Polzine Franch and her husband, JR, of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren: Andrea Thiele and her boyfriend, Jim Geiszler, of Mesa, Ariz.; and Allen Thiele of Omaha, Neb.; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett Thiele of Omaha; her sister-in-law, Joani Mangold, of Wabasha, Minn.; and seven nephews and two nieces, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, O.C. Mangold.
