Bobzin picked up the loss for Elk Point. He came in at the Top of the 7th but gave up eight hits and six earned runs as Canova made the comeback.
The Gang will face the Garretson Blue Jays in the next round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at First National Bank Field in Aspen Park.
Garretson Blue Jays 10, Volga Cormorants 0
The Garretson Blue Jays pushed their win streak to 12 straight with a 10-0 win over Volga in the opening round of the Class B tournament. The game was shortened to eight innings because of the run-rule.
Garretson (16-2) jumped on Volga from the start, scoring five times in the bottom of the first inning that was fueled by a Treyson Buckneberg two-run double. Buckneberg finished 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Brett Fischer and Jesse Brockhouse also finished with 2 RBI in the win for Garretson. Robin Chute and Nick Bonte also had two hits each.
After that big first inning, the Blue Jays cruised the rest of the way as Bonte went the entire eight innings on the mound for Garretson, striking out eight while giving up just two hits.
Volga’s two hits – both singles – came from Randy Santema and Layne Lucas. Trevor Olson got the loss for the Cormorants. He pitched just one complete inning where he gave up four hits and five earned runs.
Volga finishes the year at 8-13, a big turnaround after starting the season 1-7.

This one looked to go the distance, but PBR put five more runs up in the bottom of the eighth to end it early. Dell Rapids scored twice with two outs on the board after Calhoon singled two score one and Brayden Pankonen reached on an error, scoring the game-ending run.
