Dance, cheer teams open season at Watertown
The Brandon Valley dance team placed second in the kick division and fourth in jazz, while the cheer team placed fifth at the Aug. 29 Watertown Invite
“They had a fabulous first showing,” said dance coach Tracy Kuhn.
The Lynx’s kick routine is still improving, she said, but will remain a strong contender this season.
In the jazz division, the Lynx suffered technical deductions and identified alterations to make moving forward.
The BV dance team typically competes in pom but sat out the competition due to injuries. Kuhn said she hopes to present pom next week.
“The team is looking forward to what the season has in store, with much talent and motivation to be in the top three,” Kuhn said.
The cheer team placed fifth out of 14 teams.
“I could not be more proud of their effort,” said cheer coach Katee Lane. “We had execution errors, but very few deductions, and our cheer section of the routine was extremely strong, which is always good.”
One challenge this season, Lane said, will be bridging the gap between the team’s eight seniors and nine freshman.
“The girls performed well and controlled their nerves. As with every season, we have changes to make; however, there is such incredible potential on this year’s team and it will be fun to watch them grow,” Lane said.
The BV cheer and danceteams compete next on Sept. 7 at the Yankton Invite.
