Dan R. McInerny, 75

Dan Richard McInerney, 75, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 at the Sanford Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family. His family will be present to greet friends for a memorial visitation on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a Liturgical Wake Service at 6:30 p.m.

Dan Richard McInerney was born on Nov. 14, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa to Mary Jean (Sohn) and Edward “Bud” McInerney. He was raised in Elk Point, S.D., where he was part of the basketball team and worked on his father’s farm. Following high school, Dan continued his education, earning his degree from the University of South Dakota.

Dan was united in marriage with Peggy Lynn Sutton on April 26, 1974 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with two sons, Jon and Jordan. Dan spent his working career of over 40 years in the insurance industry, working as an insurance and claims adjuster, first at State Auto, then United Fire until his retirement in 2010. Dan took great pride in his work and was a professional advocate for his clients when tragedy struck, regularly traveling to help people impacted by natural disasters.

Dan enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, billiards, basketball and cycling. He appreciated a good meal (especially dessert) and loved traveling. Above all, he was a true family man and role model for his boys, which held true through his final days. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Peggy McInerney, Sioux Fall; two sons, Jon (Kristin) McInerney, Brandon, and Jordan (Sothea Preap) McInerney, Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Lincoln, Jack and Beckett McInerney; one brother, Michael McInerney, Sutherlin, Ore.; one sister, Kathleen Dietschey, Elk Point, S.D.; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
