The ash trees that line the drive into the Bethany campus in Brandon are infected with the emerald ash borer.

The ash trees that have lined the lane into the Bethany Meadows/Home campus in Brandon are under attack by a familiar foe: the emerald ash borer.

“These impressive trees are all ash trees and they have been invaded by a coloful, but destroying insect, the emerald ash borer. That means they have to be removed,” said Jim Erickson, who is the Foundation Director of Bethany Home.

Erickson said arborists will evaluate the trees to determine which trees need to be taken down first. The challenge, Erickson said, is how the Bethany organization will cover the cost. In addition, decisions will need to be made on the type of trees that will replace them.

The Bethany organization is accepting donations for the cause.

The Bethany property in Brandon was once the farmstead of Fran and Hilda Nelson. The land was donated to Bethany and became Bethany Meadows 20 years ago.
