Anna E. Carlson-Schmidt, 90

Anna E. Carlson-Schmidt, 90 of Brandon, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024. Public visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024 at George Boom Funeral Chapel in Brandon. Private family interment will be at Brandon Lutheran Cemetery. Visit www.georgeboom.com for an online guestbook.  

Anna was born on Dec. 26, 1933 in Sherman, S.D., the youngest of seven children to Andrew and Emma (Peters) Dahl. On Aug. 18, 1950, she married Ken Carlson, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage and raised three children. Anna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and caring for her family was the focus of her life. She worked at the Brandon Elementary School for 35 years as a cook and eventually became the manager of the kitchen. She was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed baking and cooking. 

Anna was a member of Faith United Church in Brandon and found great joy in her faith. She was also blessed with a second marriage to Howard Schmidt of Luverne, Minn., and the two shared 14 happy years together until Howard’s passing in 2004. 

Anna will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to her work. 

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Richard (Dianna) Carlson of Brandon and Greg (Georgia) Carlson of Brandon; daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Vanvuuren of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Chad (Brenna) Carlson of Brandon, Eric Carlson of Brandon, Andrea (Michael) Larson of Edgerton, Minn., and Mason Vanvuuren of Sioux Falls; seven great-grandchildren; step-children, Ed (Ethanie) Schmidt of Tracy, Minn., Hal (Lori) Schmidt and Laura Woods, all of Luverne, Minn.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Kenneth Carlson; second husband, Howard Schmidt; brothers, Elmer Dahl, Lester Dahl, Norman Dahl; and sisters, Louise Monger, and Adeline Pederson.
